Watch Yourself!

Just finished my study for my sermon on Sunday, it’s over a text I first expostied 8 years ago for Dr. Akin’s preaching class. I was comparing my notes from my study today with those of 8 years ago just to see how or what changes I made, amazingly the exposition was pretty much the same. But what’s funny is that their are notes on my paper from 8 years ago, and the critical comments are probably still true today regarding my preaching.

“Good expositional comments, good conclusion, work outline into the text, watch yourself in a few statements- Good work overall.”

I still hate sermon outlines with complete sentences that are parallel, and in the present tense; something Akin was weird about. Sermon outlines are far overated in my opinion, isn’t the text, the outline??? And what is a sermon if there isn’t a few “watch yourself” statements.

  1. Spencer, I think he gave me a few of those “watch yourself” statements too!
